Socioeconomic and Political Impediments to Women Development and Empowerment: A Case of District Peshawar, KPK
Equivalent treatment of genders and empowering women becomes the top priority goals in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2015-30. In developing countries like Pakistan women are confronted with different form of discrimination in many fields of empowerment such economic, political and social. The gradual and steady increase women’s participation in economic, political and social activities is insignificant which is insufficient to meet the percentage of men’s participation in the given field. In regions like KP, where the social norms, economic context and political participation of women are on the lower side, the women empowerment and development has not been much effective and visible. This study investigated the impediments to social, economic and political empowerment of women in KP and analysed the awareness about women empowerment and development. The study also investigated the factors that can contribute to women empowerment in the province and that can lead to subsequent economic and political development of women in the region. The study used semi-structured interviews and focused group discussion for analysis of the research question. Data from 19 participants, including working women from different departments & students, was collected using the interviews. Similarly, 24 participants were sampled for collecting data through the FGD. Supervisor:- Dr. Zulfiqar Ali
