Gilgit Baltistan is famous for tourism, because of its natural beauty, peace and highest mountains glaciers and unique landscape and the inflow of tourists in the region has been increasing at exponential rate over the last few years primarily because of the improved law and order situation in the region and focus of the current government on the tourism development in the country. This study examines the residents’ perception of economic impact, social impact and environmental impact of tourism in Hunza valley of Gilgit-Baltistan Pakistan in 2020. This study also investigates the determinants of residents’ attitude towards tourism development in the region. Data have been collected using online survey and total 250 residents of Hunza valley participated in the survey. The collected data have been analyzed using descriptive statistical tools, principle component analysis and regression technique. The results of the study show that residents are highly satisfied with economic contribution of the tourism in the region. However, residents have some concern over the negative externality of tourism on environment of the region. The region is already vulnerable to climate change and increasing inflow of tourists in the region further intensified environmental impact on the region’s previous ecosystem services. The results further reveal the residents’ attitude has been significantly influenced by the economic and social impact of Tourism. This study provides some useful baseline information for the policy makers, governmental and non-governmental organizations to provide best solutions for the growth of tourism in Gilgit Baltistan.
