Job Tenure, Meaningfulness of Work and Job Performance: Exploring the Moderating Role of Personality
Author: Khadija Akbar Dar

This research study is conducted to examine the association of job tenure and job performance. The role of meaningfulness of work in this relationship has been tested. Moderation effect of Big Five Personality traits is also examined between job tenure and meaningfulness of work. In a sample size of 254 working employees from Telecommunication Sector in Islamabad, I found that increase in job tenure results in better job performance and this relationship is mediated by meaningfulness of work. The results from Big Five personality traits showed that Conscientiousness positively and significantly moderates the relationship between job tenure and meaningfulness of work such that if conscientiousness is high then the relationship between job tenure and meaningfulness of work is further strengthened. Other traits (extraversion and agreeableness) also showed significant moderation results. Apart from them, neuroticism and openness to experience showed significant results such that if neuroticism and openness to experience is high then either the strength of the relationship is weakened or the direction of the relationship is changed. These findings offered good support for the model explaining a pathway from Job tenure to Job performance. Practical implications for management are discussed. Supervisor:-Dr. Hassan Rassol
