The Economic and Sociological Contribution of Film and Music CCIs to the Economy of Pakistan – Analyzing Through Studying Islamabad and Lahore

ABSTRACT

This academic research has concentrated on revitalization of Pakistan’s creative and cultural industries while focusing on Lahore and Islamabad, particularly in the film and music industries. The goal of this research has looked into CCIs of film and music, how they contribute economically through commodification, commercialization and what has been their sociological impact through culture, religion, society, education etc. The result has helped develop a concise conclusion that even though there are issues, creative industries hold the potential to contribute economically and sociological.

The study used a descriptive research design to provide an in-depth analysis of the current phenomena, problems, issues, behaviors, and characteristics impacting CCIs. The authored a qualitative research methodology which allowed us to focus on specific individuals as data collection units for the study. With the participation of a wide range of professionals, including actors, filmmakers, musicians, and policymakers, the data gathered provided valuable insights into the supply and demand sides of CCIs of film and music. The primary data is collected through conducting FGDs and KIIs. The data collected is thematically analyzed through thematic analysis to achieve the set research objectives.

The pivotal themes founded in this thesis which impact both economic and sociological nature of film and music CCIs are:

Commodification which informs that along with generating revenue, there are employment issues along with exploitation that comes with it. The data explains the requirement of strategies that overcome cultural barriers and support youth creativity. Commercialization explains that the commercial growth of film and music industries of pakistan is largely hindered by funding and investment. The data highlights that both growth opportunities and challenges which include exploitation, budgeting, state support etc are required for successful commercialization.

Policies, the data concluded that effective policy reforms are required for import duties, education, taxation and censorships. As these are crucial for the growth and development of film and music industries of Pakistan. 6

Technological Advancement, this has explained that there is a need to bridge digital divide and improve infrastructure so that these industries could fully leverage / access the digital platforms.

Education, this theme explains that for the growth of film and music industries of Pakistan education is vital as it will even create awareness for addressing censorship and societal barriers.

Sociological Impact is the most important theme of this research as it is impacting all other themes. It explains that we have to overcome cultural, religious, social and political barriers to foster inclusive economic growth and global recognition for the film and music industries of pakistan.

Platforms, it explains that to develop music and film industries, access to online and physical industries for these industries is crucil. It talks about democratizing and expanding digital platforms while addressing censorship and elitisim that comes forward with it.

Each one of the themes is representing a crucial side within the Creative Cultural Industries. Though sociological impact is the most important and crucial theme as it impacts all other themes in one way or another. The research is significantly important as a stepping stone for the improving and updating the creative cultural industries efficiently.

The research will further contribute to strategic guidance for policymakers, to strategize the decision-making processes for creative industries. Through efficient policies in the main themes of this research, a larger impact of CCIs could be created economically and sociologically. This would result in a diverse and inclusive participation from both supply and demand side of the CCIs as through propagation of the agendas they will be more aware and could advocate for a greater purpose.
